Today would have seen the rapper Tupac Shakur's 40th birthday. The highly influential artist was shot dead whilst riding in his car on September 7th 1996. Reportedly, Shakur's body was cremated and some of his ashes were later mixed with marijuana and smoked by members of the hiphop group Outlawz. High on Tupac!

Coincidentally, Dexter Isaac, a longtime associate of hip hop mogul Jimmy Rosemond (manager of The Game) released a statement yesterday to allhiphop.com admitting to being involved in a mugging and shooting of Tupac which took place in 1994, two years before his murder. Shakur was shot 5 times and mugged after entering the lobby of Quad Recording Studios in Manhattan by two armed men in army fatigue. You can read the full article here

The Beatles made a surprise live performance of their songs 'Paperback Writer' and 'Rain' on the hit TV show Top of The Pops. It became the band's last performance together with the exception of June 1967 worldwide transmission of 'All You Need is Love'

Kenny Rogers went in at number on the UK singles chart with his song 'Lucille'. It was the first out of two number 1 hits for the American Country singer.
