17th May - Winehouse, Doherty, Iron Maiden and The Beatles

2008

In one of the most bazaar-o moment the year, not the only one supplied by this pair, Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty posted a two-minute clip of themselves playing with newborn mice on Youtube. The King and Queen of having-loads-of-money-and-still-looking-skint were shown to in a bare room, making rambling comments, picking up the mice and talking to them. This is a rare situation when you can actually say “well it could have been worse, at least they weren’t trying to smoke the baby mice”.

1959

Born on this day –

Paul Dianno, vocals for Iron Maiden. Dianno enjoyed No.1 success in the UK with ‘Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter' (lovely). They are considered pioneers of the new wave of British heavy metal and Dianno was a member of the band from 1978 to 1981. Since leaving the band he hasreleased numerous albums over the years, as both a solo artist and as a member of such bands as Gogmagog, Di'Anno's Battlezone, Praying Mantis and Killers - which is really great. He is presently serving a nine month jail sentence, having been convicted in March 2011 for benefit fraud – which is not so great.

1965

No.1 in the charts –

The Beatles, "Ticket to Ride"
