1969

Led Zeppelin entered the UK charts for the very first time with their debut album, released with Atlantic Records. The album is now considered one of the most important debuts in rock, creating an entirely new interpretation of the rock and roll genre because of the groundbreaking music and recording techniques. It entered at No.6 and went on to spend 71 weeks on the UK chart then entered the US chart the following week at No.10.The album was recorded in just 36 hours.

 

1957

Born on this day –

Sid Vicious, real name John Ritchie. Vicious was best known as the bassist of the influential punk rock group Sex Pistols. Vicious had a tumultuous struggle with drug addiction and sadly died of a heroin overdose on 2nd February 1979, aged just 21. In 2006 he was inducted posthumously into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
