Adele helped her label XL earn 78 million last year, despite not releasing anything

Adele helped her indie label XL earn a turnover of £78.6 million in 2012, despite not releasing anything. 

XL have boasted pre-tax profits of £25.4 million, the majority of which was brought in by Adele and the success of her sophomore record, 21.

21 reached number one in more than 30 countries and is the biggest seller of the 21st century, with around 26 million copies sold by the end of 2012.

XL have noted that the industry as a whole seems to have turned a corner after years of decline - here are more reasons to be optimistic about the industry:
