Amount that James May and Richard Hammond have been offered to stay with Top Gear revealed

The BBC has offered Richard Hammond and James May £4.6 million each to stay in the wake of Jeremy Clarkson leaving the show.

Their contracts finished around two months ago but reports in The Times suggest the BBC are looking to secure an additional three series with different guest presenter each episode.  May and Hammond are currently earning around £500k per year, but if they accept the enhanced offer they could be raking in as much as £1.15m. Clarkson himself was pocketing £1m per series before he punched a producer in the face and got sacked.

Obama earns £260,000 ($400,000) for being the president of America.

Take the money, for crying out loud.

Top Gear currently provides £50m per year revenue for the BBC's commercial arm, so you can see why they're so keen to splash the cash and try not to rock the boat.
