BBC to close Maida Vale and move to new studio
The Maida Vale studio has produced hundreds of great sessions for the BBC, with just about every notable band having played there at some point, whether for John Peel or other DJs. There’s also a strong classical heritage to the facility but…
Maida Vale has been threatened with closure for over a decade, because it’s not in a great location and is considered old. The Beeb have long wanted to move to a newer building, and now it’s been announced this is happening: MV is to close, a ‘state of the art’ facility will replace it.
On the one hand, this is the loss of a classic name. On the other, the BBC’s live music output will not be going down as a result.
