Backpacks banned at German amidst terror attack fears

Backpacks banned at German amidst terror attack fears

In the wake of the tragic incident that saw a man kill himself and injure 12 more at a German music festival last week,  a festival has opted to ban backpacks amidst concerns over safety.

Wacken Festival in Germany will run from August 4-6, with around 85,000 people in attendance, but its founder Thomas Jensen has confirmed that all kinds of bags won't be allowed on the festival grounds.

"We update our security plan constantly, counting in recent events such as bad weather or the security situation in Germany. Because of that our staff knows what to do and is well prepared," Jensen has told Billboard.

He continued: "Due to the recent events we decided that backpacks and all kind of bags are no longer allowed on the festival grounds."

More European festivals are increasing security as fear over attacks is rife.
