Backstreet Boys sell song to Chipotle - watch

One of the most memorable songs from the 90s was Backstreet Boys’ ‘I Want It That Way’ released in 1999. Fast forward to 2016 and the song re-emerges as the soundtrack used in Chipotle’s new short film ‘A Love Story’. For those who may not know, Chipotle is a Mexican grill restaurant which specialises in making tacos and burritos and located in various countries such as the US, the UK, Canada, Germany and France. Back in 2013, the restaurant chain released the animated short film ‘The Scarecrow’ which was part of the restaurant’s advertisement. The short film involves a narrative which heavily criticises industrial farming while using a cover version of ‘Pure Imagination’ from ‘Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory’ sung by Fiona Apple. The restaurant chain released another animated short film that was uploaded to YouTube on 5th July named ‘A Love Story’. The narrative explores the negative effects of capitalism on the restaurant industry while using a cover version of ‘I Want It That Way’. Impressively, Chipotle managed to get Brittany Howard from Alabama Shakes and Jim James from My Morning Jacket to perform the cover. The cover goes for a slower and softer approach when compared to the original version which added to the emotional themes that the short film conveys.
