If you’re buying tickets for a festival this year, you don’t just have to avoid one scam, but a two-parter. For years now you’ve had to be careful of buying tickets either online or through “less reputable” dealers / touts, because there’s a chance you’ll be buying a counterfeit ticket and you won’t be let in. But this is where the second part of the scam comes in, and police feel it’s going to be widespread this year after a test run at a few festivals last year. So: knowing full well that they’ve sold a load of dodgy tickets which will be discovered on the door, and that there’ll be a load of upset punters being turned away, the touts hang nearby selling counterfeit wristbands to con desperate travellers into paying twice, only to risk getting turned away again.
