Black Deer Focus: Indian Queens

Black Deer Focus: Indian Queens
Indian Queens are a group of former school friends from Hackney Wick, and their single Bubblegum sounds like Portishead soundtracking a Morricone film. There is a marvellous familiarity to the insistent beat and the way the song expands, but it’s unusual to hear them together, and this lies at the heart of Indian Queen’s music. The same vibe is in the music video which takes the whole Bubblewrap thing literally and would surely fail health and safety.
We’ve also got a twenty two minute live set for you today, a marvellously experiment journey, and possibly not what you’d expect from Black Deer Festival, where Indian Queens will be playing this summer: but music is at its best when it’s a broad church, and Black Deer is a cathedral. There’s some shoegaze in Indian Queen’s sound, some psyche, some sludge and a sparkling of pop.
Black Deer Festival is being held 2021, June 18-20. Tickets from https://blackdeerfestival.com/
