David Bowie's The Next Day looks set to top the chart this Sunday.

It is currently outselling its four nearest rivals combined. This would be his ninth No 1 album and his first in twenty years since Black Tie White Noise in 1993.

Aladdin Sane was his first number 1 album, and it climbed to the top in May 1972, almost 40 years ago exactly.

Sales of the new album had already surpassed 65,000 units by the end of Tuesday.

It's nearest competitors are Bon Jovi's brand new album What About Now, Emeli Sande's Our Version Of Events, Bastille with Bad Blood and Bruno Mars' Unorthodox Jukebox.
