We’ll be honest, Pitchfork ran with the political angle, but to us the most amazing thing about this story is that a band actually liked a fan made video. Maybe the million crazy people uploading their mashups to Youtube really are like a room full of monkeys with typewriters with something good occasionally coming out. Unlike their normal shit flinging.

But to the video: a fan who wishes to remain anonymous has spliced together footage of the recent G20 Summit demonstration and resultant riot, plus other contentious issues, with images of the most ridiculous and pointless things our pop culture uses to distract us to Broken Social Scene’s ‘Meet Me in the Basement’. The band liked it – especially as it might have been directly inspired by comments from them in interviews – and put it out with their seal of approval. They even added “We are very proud to share this mash-up with you." Get going bedroom masterminds, there is hope out there!
