Conservative uses Muse for Publicity

Normally, you want all the praise you can get from the radio and other media, but a story broke last week alleging that Muse were being more discerning. Fox News personality Glenn Beck – known for his conservative views and anti-Obama stance –praised the album on air, not only saying it was “fantastic”, but saying the lyrics are “dead on, on what's coming our way.” He also said "These guys are brilliant, they know the time that we live in. They are libertarians from England.” He then claimed someone representing the band contacted the show and asked for a retraction because he was misrepresenting them. Beck said “They would like me to retract my endorsement. My apologies to Muse for saying that I like them. I didn't mean to destroy all their credibility and all their coolness. It's an awful album and you should never go out and buy it.” It wasn’t impossible to believe that someone like Beck would like the new album, as it draws heavily on the fertile and internet fed conspiracy theories espoused by paranoid bunker builders. However, the radio station has now come out to say the whole thing was a stunt by Beck, and that he was never contacted. So what has this achieved? Well, a whole generation of Muse fans now know who Glenn Beck is.
