David Bowie to release brand new album this January, his 'weirdest' record yet

David Bowie to release brand new album this January, one of his most ambitious to date

We just dropped our coffee mug here at SupaJam HQ after today's reports suggest David Bowie will release a new album named Blackstar in January.

The piece sounds like one of his most ambitious to date A seven-song collection, according to the Times it was recorded at New York’s Magic Shop studio with the assistance of local jazz musicians. The lead single, also called “Blackstar,” will drop on November 19th.

The Times call it “an album of long, jazzy jams mixed with the kind of driving beat pioneered by Seventies German bands Can and Kraftwerk.” There's a flavour of “Gregorian chants, a soul section, various electronic beats and bleeps and Bowie’s distinctive vocals,” it is quantified by a Bowie insider as “completely bonkers.”

Pieces will be featured in “Lazarus,” the musical Bowie is co-writing with Enda Walsh. The track is also used as the theme for UK crime series “The Last Panthers.”

“Blackstar” is expected to be released on Jan. 8th, 2016, Bowie’s 69th birthday. It will follow 2013's The Next Day.
