David Bowie's furniture collection on sale

David Bowie's furniture collection on sale

Known for having a supreme, unrivalled taste in music, film and art, David Bowie's personal furniture collection is up for sale.

Around 100 items from inside the Thin White Duke's house will go up on November 11th.

Before his death, Bowie had become an avid collector of works by Italian designer Ettore Sottsass and the Milan-based Memphis group. Sotheby's are set to auction it all off - with the lowest value piece priced at £60 while others could fetch up to £7000.

"The works produced by the historical avant-garde design collaborative Memphis Milano, led by Ettore Sottsass, could not have found a more receptive and tuned-in audience than David Bowie," said Cécile Verdier, co-head of 20th-century design at Sotheby's.

She added: "This is design with no limits and no boundaries," she added. "When you look at a piece of Memphis design, you see their unconventionality, the kaleidoscope of forms and patterns, the vibrant contrasting colours that really shouldn't work but really do."
