Tony Blair used to be the shining success story of British politics, a man who took a large, but out of date, political party and transformed it into a powerful government. Then he met George Bush, mislead the world over Iraq’s (lack of) weapons of mass destruction and started a war he clearly had no idea how to actually finish. He’s now a national byword for smug, conceited delusion, and has released an autobiography which aims to put his side of the story.
Amongst the petty squabbling (he started refusing to take his most powerful minister’s calls, presumably while putting his fingers in his ears and saying ‘can’t hear you’) is one musical gem: Bono could be “a president or prime minister.” Yes, Bono “had an absolutely natural gift for politicking, was great with people, very smart and an inspirational speaker." Indeed "I knew he could work with George [W Bush] well, and with none of the prissy disdain of his ilk.” Gee Tony, why do you think his ilk view you with disdain?
