Ed Sheeran being sued over claims that 'Thinking Out Loud' copied, yes, Marvin Gaye

Following the acrimonious lawsuit and subsequent $7.2 million pay off that surrounded Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines' apparent plagiarising of Marvin Gaye's 'Got To Give It Up', you'd have thought things would have died down in that department.

However, a new lawsuit has appeared today that suggests Ed Sheeran copied 'Let's Get It On' with his track 'Thinking Out Loud'. It has been suggested by the family of Ed Townsend - Gaye's co-writer for the song - that Sheeran pilfered from the song.

According to the court papers, “The Defendants copied the heart of Let's and repeated it continuously throughout Thinking.”

They continue, “The melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic compositions of Thinking are substantially and/or strikingly similar to the drum composition of Let’s.”
