Emmy the Great’s first album had an awful lot of songs where you’d think ‘hmm, I wonder if she’s singing about herself’. Now, we know this is usually a schoolboy error when listening to tunes, but for Emmy it was very true: "After I wrote the last album, I felt terrible about having to sing songs about someone I knew so blatantly." She went on to NME about what she tried to do to remedy that situation: “I tried to write this record based entirely on imaginary situations. Unfortunately it didn't end up being imaginary in the end because most of the songs are about me." Let’s just whisper the word ego.
