Fast Track winners are announced- with a twist

Find out who won Fast Track to FIB.. but there's a twist..!

Last night a rammed out Power’s Bar saw 7 hopeful bands battle TO THE DEATH. Well, actually for a slot to play at Benicassim, but these things can take on a lot of significance when you’re chasing the dream.. This was probably the tightest field we’ve ever had at a Fast Track final, with very high standards throughout, so much so that we had to change the rules a little, but more on that later...

The night kicked off with pLastiq’s mix of epic post punk and swirling keyboards, singer Marianne giving some serious attitude on stage and setting the bar high. Next up we had The Thespians, a sharp looking Scouse 4 piece with a fine line in chiming guitar jangles and raucous boy-girl vocal harmonies. Flight Brigade proved too big to fit the stage, with the 6 members crowded onto it covering accordion, xylophone, violin, drums, more drums, a couple of guitars and a bass, whilst seventh member Johnny set up his frankly massive keyboard on the floor. They delivered some beautiful complex arrangements, and looked ones to watch. The Suburbians followed and got the place pogoing with their hyper energetic call and response power pop. Yossarian then took to the stage and held the energy levels high, their mix of Interpol melodies, Nick Cave style gravel throated vocals and strong, dark lyrics captivating fans and judges alike. Ariels Up were another band too big to squeeze into the performance space together- this time we had a keyboardist and guitarist relegated to the floor. The Glaswegian collective delivered some excellent Bon Iver styled Americana, with sweet vocal harmonising and building melodies. At this point there was already a great deal of discord over who would take the number one spot- then up stepped Arp Attack and blew us all away. The 3 piece delivered their sunny Kitsune styled electro pop with style and panache and swept the board...  The judges were united and Arp Attack won the coveted place at FIB, a massive well done to them !

 – but it doesn’t end there – For the first time in a Fast Track final the judges were so impressed by both Yossarian and Flight Brigade that Vince Power offered both bands a slot at this years Hop Farm Festival, great news for them both as well.

A huge thank you to everyone who came and played or watched, commiserations to those who didn’t make it through- you were all excellent. Check out some tracks from our winners below--
