Here’s Dave Grohl talking about how his mum made him play with a jazz band
Everyone has some embarrassing childhood incidents, and Dave Grohl is no different. He may be a modern rock titan, but he was once an awkward teenager whose mother put him in a toe curling situation. And now there’s a video of him explaining it, sat next to said mother at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books.

He starts by explaining how great it was to be exposed by his parents to many kinds of music, including being taken to jazz clubs. Then he talks about the birthday his mother had when punk rocker and new drummer Dave was asked by his mother to play with the experienced jazz musicians in the club…

Sounds embarrassing, but Dave gives it a marvellous message. Oh, yeah, we’re probably supposed to mention Dave’s mum is promoting her book From Cradle To Stage: Stories From The Mothers Who Rocked And Raised Rock Stars by Virginia Grohl.
