House records blues album

Actor-musician alert.

If you’re in Britain, you probably know Hugh Laurie as the posh comedy buffoon who featured in greats like Blackadder and Jeeves and Wooster. If you’re in America, you probably know him as irascible medic House. Now he’s putting out an album of New Orleans blues songs on a Warner sub label. If your immediate reaction is ‘oh god, a singing comedian, this is going to be terrible’, you’re probably right, but he can at least play instruments and is saying the right thing: ''I know the history of actors making music is a chequered one, but I promise no one will get hurt. I am particularly thrilled to be working with Joe Henry, who has produced some of my favourite records of all time, and I can't wait to get started.''
