JK Rowling meets Morrissey in shop 'it was amazing he knew who I was'

'Huge Smiths fan' and Potter scribe JK Rowling has revealed her amazement at meeting the former Smiths singer.

Speaking to Lauren Laverne for The Guardian's Weekend magazine, she said that she knows why Harry Potter "still means so much" to people "because I know how much it meant to me to meet Morrissey".

She met the singer in a Harvey Nichols shop recently: "We were looking at each other, getting nearer and nearer, and at almost exactly the same moment we both put out our hands. What was amazing to me was, Morrissey knew who I was."

She added: "I was with my sister-in-law and she said, ‘Put. Your. Hand. Down.’ I was walking around afterwards with my hand out, like that ... I said, ‘Morrissey touched me!’ She said, ‘I know, you look stupid.’"

Like many do, Rowling spent her youth "lying there in the dark with the joss sticks, listening to 'Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now."

Rowling is currently working on her 49th Potter instalment, 'Harry Potter and the concerning graph paper'.
