Last night Leonard Cohen participated in a Q&A session chaired by Jarvis Cocker to answer questions about his forthcoming album, his songwriting, and his future plans.
As reported in The Guardian, Cohen was on fine form, keeping the room of journalists entertained for a couple of hours with his trademark wry, self deprecating humour. He was reluctant to be drawn on the meanings of his songs, at one point telling Cocker "You know, I don't have that many ideas," and saying that his songwriting was ‘scraping the bottom of the barrel’.
Cohen did however reveal that his recent performances, forced upon him by financial difficulties, had left him “invigorated and illuminated” and that he would probably go on tour again to promote his forthcoming album, Old Ideas.
Unfortunately for anyone hoping to see a collaboration between Cohen and his son-in-law Rufus Wainwright, the 77 year old singer has no plans for such a recording, claiming that Wainwright "can keep a tune and that puts me at a disadvantage."
