Lorde’s controversial hit reaches iTunes UK no1 in a matter of hours

Lorde is just sixteen, but she’s already had a world conquering pop hit in the form of Royals and a fair amount of controversy. This has only continued over the weekend as, fresh from conquering the US with a number one, the New Zealand star’s single reached the top of the UK iTunes chart within a few hours of finally getting a UK release. It looks like being quids in for the top spot this Sunday.

Being accused by Veronica Bayetti Flores of racism only gave greater publicity, and its critique of rap stars’ lifestyles has hit home despite Lorde saying she’s surprised no one else got there first. Her debut LP ‘Pure Heroine’ is out in a week and destined to be huge.
