MIA says No Gimmicks

MIA finally gained recognition in the US music scene last year when one of her tracks appeared in a movie, and has spoken about the follow up album she’ll be bringing out in spring this year:

"I wanted it to be like, no gimmicks…It’s my third album and I have to kind of confront whether I am a musician or not… I wanted to make something that you could play that isn’t like trendy just for three months, or the length of a DJ’s attention span."

Which raises the question, what does she mean by gimmicks? Presumably the gunshot sound effects are out (although they got taken off radio versions of her hit tune so as not to pervert the innocent), but where does this leave the beautiful mix of influences and sounds which made up previous MIA albums? She didn’t exactly autotune it up before.
