Lankan born singer MIA is no stranger to controversy. Earlier this year she suceeded in enraging middle America by raising her middle finger during a guest spot in Madonna's Superbowl performance, and now she's back to piss off our cousins over the Atlantic some more, by offering vocal support to one of the US governments biggest bugbears- Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.
Speaking to the Evening Standard, the singer told how she was given special access to see Assange- currently claiming diplomatic immunity inside the Ecuadorian embassy. The pair have worked before, with MIA composing the theme tune to Assange's program The World Tomorrow, and she named her recent mixtape Vicki Leekx in homage to his site. Once inside the embassy, she took the only interior photos available of Assange, which she later tweeted to her half million followers.
"“I am a big fan,” she said of the activist, who is facing allegations of sexual assault in Sweden but has not been charged. “I don’t really believe the rape charges,” she added."
How her current American distributors at Interscope will take this is anyones guess...
