MTV thrills audiences and goes back to roots with 'classic' channel launch

We can all agree that Music Television/MTV has passed its heyday. What used to be a respectable and raunchy channel that would focus on music videos and adult cartoons has now been replaced by trashy reality shows such as Jersey Shore. Fortunately, someone at MTV must have been feeling some sympathy for the classic fans of MTV during the 90s and early 00s as the network has announced that they will be rebranding VH1 Classic as MTV Classic which is set to begin on 1st August.

Reports indicate that this new channel will be working towards a focus on "an eclectic mix of fan-favourite MTV series and music programming drawn from across its rich history, with a special focus on the 1990s and early 2000s”. On a related note the date of 1st August has some significance for MTV as it was the date of its launch back in 1981. The debut hour of MTV Classic will replicate the first hour of programming in MTV's history. The “MTV Hour One” will even be available via Facebook Live on the channel’s Facebook page.

With this new channel, you’ll be able to satisfy your nostalgic needs, being able to watch shows such as Total Request Live, MTV Unplugged, Beavis & Butt-head and Aeon Flux. MTV Unplugged should particularly special for some as they will be airing the most memorable instalments, which includes episodes featuring Nirvana, Erykah Badu and Bob Dylan.
