Mark Chapman has long been in prison for murdering John Lennon, and everyone thinks he’s crazy so this news story won’t come as a surprise. The thing is, Chapman is operating under the delusion he’s been forgiven for the killing by none other than Jesus.
Yes. Jesus. A letter that’s recently been on sale at a website devoted to the ephemera of serial killers (yes, such things exist), was written in 1992 by Chapman to a pen pal, and explained:
“Jesus is a real, living person I have come to know… Jesus is everything… I have found this through the many long years here at Attica… He chose to die so that our sins – even mine – could be forgiven. Twelve years ago I shot and killed the rock superstar John Lennon, formerly of The Beatles. Let me say here that it was a horrible occurrence, I have never forgotten it.”
Possibly not yours Mark, possibly not yours.
