New Music: Pistols at Dawn

Listen, don't watch.

Doing an effective werewolf transformation on a low budget can be tricky, and when Pistols at Dawn’s video for single ‘Man.Wolf.Man’ tries it look silly… although as the video carries on in the same ‘comedy’ way that’s probably fine. What’s odd is that the jokey video accompanies an earnest song that otherwise makes its point well, and the video is supposed to have a deep message – stand back cynics – and here it is:

“A reaction to communist ideals and the restriction of freedom of individualism in the Soviet Union, which is still clearly evident in the recent imprisonment of Russian punk band Pussy Riot. Wilson the Wolf is a true individual who stands out from society, but is still a happy and welcome member of it. Professor Pfister’s laboratory represents the repressive government that sees individuality as a threat. Hence, Wilson is clubbed and taken away to be disposed of or experimented on.”

So, our advice is to ignore the video which destroys it, and just focus on a song that’s like Elbow, if Guy Garvey had forgotten to take his anti-depressants for a week.
