New Music: Voodoo Trombone Quartet

Yes, trombones.

The Voodoo Trombone Quartet tries to do a tricky thing: make cool, leftfield music by mixing modern sounds with trombones. Okay, on paper this sounds questionable, but the lead track off their forthcoming single has electronic beats, indie hand claps and the trombones dialled down enough to work in the mix. It’s a fun summer tune, and we can see why people have lined up to sync their work. But the b-side is pushing things for us, a sort of brass heavy Groove Armada. The single is out at the end of July, and there’s a third album due soon too.
