Next curator for Meltdown Festival announced, to follow David Byrne, Yoko Ono, Bowie, Nick Cave

Elbow frontman Guy Garvey has today been confirmed as the curator of Meltdown Festival 2016, following the successful year from Talking Heads man David Byrne.

This will be the 24th Meltdown festival to be held at London's Southbank Centre since its 1993 conception. Each year an established musician handpicks their own lineup with the likes of Elvis Costello, Nick Cave, David Bowie, Morrissey, Patti Smith and Yoko Ono having had the honour in the past.

Garvey will organise the 12-day event in 2016 and announced the news in the following statement: "I see this as the perfect opportunity to shine a light on some amazing new talent whilst recognising and celebrating the artists that have had an influence on the new sounds of today. Beyond that I want my Meltdown to be a party where everyone feels invited and everyone leaves having had the best night out."

Meltdown 2016 takes place between 10th and 19th June 2016, tickets won't be available for some time.
