Nick Grimshaw's ratings improve, though he's still 900,000 behind Moyles

Music News

Nick Grimshaw has added just over 100,000 listeners to Radio 1 Breakfast show's falling averages between April and June, although the show is still 900,000 lower than when he took over from fat man Chris Moyles almost a year ago.

Apparently, Grimshaw attracts on average just under 5.9m listeners each week, according to the latest Rajar figures. The Guardian has reported that 70% of the new audience are in the 15- to 24-year-old bracket, while the average age of a Radio 1 listener is 32.

Station controller Ben Cooper said: "It is brilliant to see that we are reaching 750,000 new listeners on Radio 1, and we are particularly happy to see an increase in younger audiences to our breakfast show."
