Nine die in Oakland warehouse party fire, more missing

Nine lives have been claimed by a warehouse fire in Oakland, California and more are missing.

The converted warehouse, named the Ghost Ship, caught fire at 11:30pm where 50 and 100 people were thought to have been inside. It is feared as many as 40 people could have died in the fire, with many concert-goers missing, as BBC News reports.

Oakland fire chief Teresa Deloche-Reed has released a statement claiming that the building did not have a sprinkler system and no alarms were heard by firefighters upon their arrival. The only escape from the venue's second level was a palleted staircase.

If you would like to donate to a fund for the victims of the fire or find out more information, you can here. It had raised $212,198 at the time of writing.
