Nutter Blames Madonna for Boat Tragedy

As regular readers will know, Madonna has faced opposition for performing on days with significance to Christians on a tour of Eastern Europe. Now the stakes have been raised: she’s being blamed for the deaths of fifteen people in a boating accident which took place several days later in a different country! In Bulgaria, her gig took place on August 29th, a day commemorating the beheading of John the Baptist. On September 5th, fifteen Bulgarians died in a lake in Macedonia. Nikolay, metropolitan of the city of Plovdiv and thus a big figure in the church, has laid the blame for the latter squarely on the former, and is reported in the Telegraph as saying: "The catastrophe in Macedonia in which 15 Bulgarian citizens died was a sign from heaven…The Orthodox Church had called for people not to enjoy themselves on the day marking the execution of John." And then, in a quote you couldn’t make up, said "We should not allow the young to have fun on a day that should be dedicated to spiritual reflection.” Okay then. It’s almost like the Enlightenment never happened.
