Paul McCartney backs campaign to preserve venues
The UK Music campaign is trying to save venues in Britain, and part of this is a new law proposed by Labour MP John Spellar which, if passed, would demand planning changes and building plans pay attention to existing business around them. E.g. you can’t build something that would ruin a music venue that’s been there for fifty years.
Obviously Billy Bragg is involved because someone is opening an envelope, but UK Music has enlisted Paul McCartney too, a man who remembers the small venues of his year months:
“Without the grassroots clubs, pubs and music venues my career could have been very different,” he said. “If we don’t support music at this level, then the future of music in general is in danger.”
