RIP the great Daniel Johnston
There was never a greater ‘outsider artist’ than the titanic Daniel Johnston. A man who wrote some of the most beautiful poetry you could find, that connected with people on such a deep emotional level, yet was totally the opposite of a popular media being. His work inspired many, including Kurt Cobain, and it was fair to say you could judge people who heard him as just an awful noise, and people who thought he was their avatar, and move accordingly. He was labelled lo-fi by people who saw that as a judgement.
Below is the song The Sun Shines Down On Me. It truly did Daniel, even though your song summed up our depressions. He was 58.
