Ricky Tomlinson makes suggestion that Countdown host Richard Whiteley was a government spy

Actor Ricky Tomlinson has today enabled us to publish our favourite piece of 2017 news. He has split our minds at SupaJam HQ by dropping the veritable diamond that Richard Whiteley - yes, former host of Countdown - was actually a government spy.

Tomlinson - who once was a plasterer - helped to organise the first national building workers’ strike. This led up to 1973, when he and his trade union associate Des Warren were found guilty of “conspiracy to intimidate” and Tomlinson received a two-year prison sentence.

Speaking at an opening of a Wetherspoons in Cheshire yesterday, however, Tomlinson has claimed that 'Red Under The Bed' - a documentary presented by Whiteley - was played in court and both on the television the night the jury were out considering the verdict, thus playing a huge part in swaying them.

“I’ve got documents at home, which are printed ‘confidential’, ‘strictly confidential’, ‘not to be seen’, but it involves the likes of Ted Heath, Woodrow Wyatt.

“And we’ve just discovered that they made a film which went out on television the night the jury were out considering the verdict called Red Under The Bed, and it was so anti-trade union that two of the jury changed their mind and brought a majority verdict in of 10-2 guilty.”

He added: “We found out this week that the film was designed, written, made and paid for by the security services. Woodrow Wyatt was a member of the security services and unbelievably so was Richard Whiteley who hosted the show. Richard Whiteley from Countdown was a member of the intelligence services.”

Ricky continued, finally commenting on his several appearances on Countdown:

“The security services use media people as part of the intelligence services. I must have done Countdown four or five times. I didn’t know at the time, I wish I had known, I’d have strangled him. There’s all sorts of people involved. It was a carve up right from the go.”
