Somehow Marc Jacobs is claiming he didn’t nick Nirvana’s logo
Last year Marc Jacobs released a fashion line inspired by grunge, including a logo that seemed very similar to Nirvana’s. So similar, that lawyers for the band sued, giving a huge amount of publicity to Marc Jacobs for something people would never otherwise have known about.

Now, Jacobs has defended himself and pled innocence, which is absolutely staggering given what the two logos look like. Jacobs lawyers go in with both a ‘Nirvana don’t own that logo’ approach, and a ‘if they did own that logo we didn’t copy anything legally problematic’ approach, but let’s be honest, most people have eyes and you can see the comparison that’s been going round the web.

“Marc Jacobs reinterpreted the design,” they say. Right. Still, publicity.
