Sorry haters: Nick Grimshaw adds 800,000 listeners
It’s become fashionable to bash Nick Grimshaw, a man who had to contend with the rise of ‘that song whenever you want it’ streaming services and the BBC deciding to restructure its radio networks after government pressure and force a rigid age range.
Radio 1 changed, the web changed, the world changed, and Radio 1 began to lose listeners who were kicked elsewhere. Last summer saw the Nick Grimshaw breakfast show fall to its lowest ever listenership: 4.93 million.
Well, sorry haters, but since then Grimshaw has gained 800,000 listeners. Perhaps young people want to listen to DJs after all.
