Soundcloud sacks 40 of its staff

Soundcloud sacks 40% of its staff
Let us begin with a quote from Alex Ljung, Chief Executive and Co-Founder of music streaming service Soundcloud: “By reducing our costs and continuing our revenue growth, we’re on our path to profitability and in control of SoundCloud’s independent future.” Ah, yes, reducing costs, in control. Now would you like to guess what that means?
It means sacking 173 staff from a total of 420, and shutting the London and San Francisco offices. They still have Berlin and New York left.
If you sense a bit of cynicism in this post, it’s because we’re not going to gloss this like Alex. Soundcloud is in trouble, and making major changes to adopt a better direction, and I don’t think you can argue with that when you’ve sacked 40% of your staff. It certainly does reduce costs, but these are people’s jobs and lives that have been axed.
