Taylor Swift’s cameo heavy You Need To Calm Down stakes out claim as gay icon

Taylor Swift’s cameo heavy You Need To Calm Down stakes out claim as gay icon
It is, of course, marvellous to see a high profile musician release a video that’s jam packed with cameos of LGBT stars, as Taylor Swift has done. From Ellen DeGeneres, through the Queer Eye team and seemingly the entire hit list of Drag Race, the video is fuelled with Pride energy, even cramming in a few shots at bigots. There are detailed breakdowns on the web of exactly who is who, even noting that Ryan Reynolds (who sadly isn’t gay) appears to be painting the actual Stonewall Inn.

But we can’t report this without acknowledging the slightly cynical take of some LGBT commentators, namely that Taylor does seem to be trying very, very hard to stake out gay icon status, which is given not taken.

But hey she’s dressed as fries and Katy Perry is a burger.
