The EU Wants to Limit Your MP3 Player

If you’re in the EU and listen to an MP3 player regularly you might have a problem. The European Commission have decided that we all listen to music too loud on our MP3 players and will probably end up deaf, and they think the solution to this is to force companies like Apple to limit how loud our players can go. To give you an idea, a current iPod can reach 130 decibels, and the EU wants it set to maximum of only 80 db. Perhaps good in theory, rubbish if you use your player on a train into work. Of course, as this is the EU the proposal has to be scrutinised by a different body with a long name (European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization) and it might take two years to go into effect if accepted.
