The Mars Volta are coming back
Born from the death of At The Drive In, The Mars Volta released six studio LPs of complicated riffing and utter beauty, before themselves splitting in 2013. At the time this was blamed on a divorce in the friendship of Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López, and this is a telling quote:
 
“What am I suppose to do be some progressive house wife that’s cool with watching their partner go fuck other bands? The falling out had been four years in the making, so the final announcement on my part was really just to let the children know that Mom and Dad were splitting up.”
 
However the pair have worked together since then, and now it’s been confirmed on twitter the band are coming back, albeit in a reply to a fan:
