The Weeknd donates 250,000 to Black Lives Matter

The Weeknd has donated $250,000 to the Black Lives Matter movement, it has been heard.

This donation comes a month after the Toronto artist tweeted his support for the movement, following the deaths of Philando Castle and Alton Sterling.

This follows the singer's $50,000 donation to the University of Toronto's Ethopian Studies program. The Weeknd's parents are from Ethopia, and his contribution pushed the organisation’s fundraising to $170,000 to launch a course on the Ge’ez, an ancient script and language known as Ethiopic.
