The UK Music Industry is having a small pat on its back moment, after the official charts revealed that in 2011 52.7% of all British album sales were of UK artists. That might seem a small amount for a state that prides itself on having a creative music scene, but last year less than half the records sold in the UK came from UK artists (48.9%). A misplaced sense of national pride has been assuaged. By contrast, the US share of the UK market fell to 32.7%, which is the lowest by 1999. I assume an ambassador has been called in and told to pull his finger out.
