Walking Dead can be on TV for 20 years says showrunner dreaming of his pension
Scott Gimple has been showrunner of hit horror show The Walking Dead since 2013, and he’s a very optimistic man. He told a panel at LA’s Paleyfest that the show could go on, and on, and on, for a long time.
“We are trying to do 20 years… The comic has certainly done it, and I look forward to every issue...The Simpsons has been on 26, 27 years, so that’s a challenge — so OK, challenge accepted. Done.”
As people who have read the comic since it began we are obliged to put our nerd hats on and point out it hasn’t been going for twenty years yet, but even with a long running and bestselling comic 20 years is quite the plan. Has anyone told Rick?
So what will be in it? Will be get the Whisperer War? Gemple spoke about that too.
“We try to reinvent the show every eight episodes,” he said. “We have this story that is a fidelity to the comic book, but we’re also exploring original stuff, and those things help us go on every year… We want to try do it better, do things we haven’t done, take risks. It’s scary as hell, but as long as we keep doing that the show can go on and on.”
