UPDATE: Will.I.am suing Pharrell over using the phrase 'I am'

Will.I.am suing Pharrell over using the phrase 'I am'

Will.I.am is suing fellow musician Pharrell Williams over the use of the phrase 'I am'.

Pharrell has set up a brand called “i am OTHER” that serves to promote talent online and said he was searching for a “diverse group of optimistic, bright minds”. Will.I.am reacted by claiming that he owns the copyright to the phrase “I AM” and that Pharrell's logo is “confusingly similar” to his “i.am+” iPhone camera add-on, according to court documents.

Pharrell Williams told Rolling Stone magazine: “I am disappointed that Will, a fellow artist, would file a case against me. I am someone who likes to talk things out and, in fact, I attempted to do just that on many occasions.

”I am surprised in how this is being handled and I am confident that Will's trademark claims will ultimately be found to be as meritless and ridiculous as I do.“

"I think, therefore." Descartes.

"Not a crook." Nixon.

"The greatest." Muhammed Ali.

UPDATE: Will hit back at Pharrell and tweeted thrice the claims were false:

‘i.am not suing @Pharrell & I NEVER WAS.. What i.am doing is… #iamSCHOLARSHIP sending kids to school debt free.

‘i.am not suing @Pharrell & i never was. what i.am doing is #iamHOME helping families keep their homes…

‘i.am not suing @Pharrell and I never was… what i.am doing is #iamangel TRANS4Ming inner cities with #STEAM tools…’
