Zayn Malik admits his reason for leaving One Direction was 'faked'

Zayn Malik has today admitted that the reason given for his high profile departure from One Direction in 2015 was fabricated.

The statement originally read as follows: "My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band."

"I'd like to apologise to the fans if I've let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart. I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight.

"I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall. I know they will continue to be the best band in the world."

However, in an interview today, Zayn Malik has alluded to the fact this may not have been completely honest. The text goes: "[He smirks and leans forward] 'I'm going to ask you a question now — do you think I wrote that? Like, look how it's worded. I'm not a 35-year-old lawyer. I don't write like that,' [he sits back, satisfied.]"

That's a small porthole into the fucked-up life of a teen pop star, isn't it?
