All Star Benefit CD for Chris Knox

Chris Knox, one of New Zealand’s great alternative figures who mixed music with cartoons and even film reviews, recently suffered a stroke. This damaged both his speech and the right side of his body, and a representative posted on his blog that the recovery process will be long. Luckily, if luck can ever enter into a situation like this, Chris has a lot of fans who wish to help, and they are contributing to a benefit CD of covers. And by fans, we mean the royal family of low key American indie: Will Oldham (Bonnie Prince Billy), Bill Callahan (Smog), Guided by Voices, Mountain Goats, Yo La Tengo, Lambchop, Lou Barlow and more. Most excitingly for this scribe, Jeff Mangum is going to record a track! The Knox family seem to have their spirits held high, because the album will be called ‘Stroke’.
