Pixies to Release ‘Minotaur’ Box Set

When people heard the rumours that the Pixies were to release something called Minotaur, there was hope that the reformed band had struck their recording chemistry back up between gigs and penned a new album. There were thus mixed feelings when the news broke today that Minotaur is actually a collector’s box of their work, featuring all five classic studio albums – Come on Pilgrim, Surfer Rosa, Doolittle, Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde – alongside a DVD of a classic concert performance and “re-interpeted” artwork. So why should you buy this? The tracks haven’t been mastered and the albums appear on “24k layered CD and Blu-Ray”, but there may be bonus tracks. However if you’ve got the cash, there’ll be an expensive ($450) release with the both CDs and 180 gram vinyl for anyone with a record player. Which should let you replace your old Pixies LPs. The major selling point might be the art, which is being reworked by the pair responsible for it originally…and some of their students.
